Our basket of seed packets is filling up with beautifully designed envelopes. This week, the children made packets for moon flower seeds. Both 1st and 2nd grade classrooms have been busy making seed packages that will be for sale to the Summers Knoll community on May 17th. (more on this soon).
We had a brainstorming session to come up with ideas about why some of the seeds we planted were not growing. The children came up with many interesting hypotheses from too much water, too little water, too many seeds next to each other, etc.
Also this week, we had a visit from Amanda, a librarian from the Ann Arbor Public Libraries. She talked about all the amazing programs that will be going on at the libraries over the summer.
On Thursday, we went to Washtenaw Community College where we saw a Wild Swan Theater production of "Marketplace Stories: Folktales from the Arab World". After the the performance, representatives and volunteers from the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn Michigan and the Wild Swan Theater, had a hands-on workshop set up for the children in a common area at WCC. This workshop included materials and instruction for the children. They created a mosaic of colorful translucent plastic squares.
