Poetry can evoke strong emotions.
When I told the children that they were going to write poems for their mothers, many children grumbled, were exasperated and stated that they didn't know how to write a poem. I suggested they could write a Haiku, which they learned how to write the week before, or they could look around the room at the poems we have been reading all year, for inspiration.
For some, ideas came quickly; for others, it was a struggle but in the end all the children discovered that they could write poetry.
Many were so excited by what they produced that they could not wait till Mother's Day to share their gift with their moms. I saw several mother's with teary eyes after reading a poem, written for them by their child.
The poets were successful.
Have a wonderful day.
