Flower exploration

If you have been following the blog, you know, we have been taking a journey through the human body. Recently, we started reading a Magic School Bus book about the senses. We learned about the parts of the eye and how messages are sent through the optic nerves to the brain.

We detoured briefly from the human body to explore plants. During Science with Shan, the children planted seeds in de-compostable newspaper pots. Once the seedlings sprouted they were planted in the garden by the front door.

With all the flowers blooming around us, we moved from learning about parts of the of our body to parts of a flower. We did a dissection project (another reason for the diversion from the human body). Each child took apart a daffodil and then picked one of the parts to look at under the microscope and draw .
We have also been pressing flowers. Some of these were used in Mother's day projects.
