Flea Market Math

The children have been learning to recognize coins, learning their values, and counting coin money.  So on Friday, 1/17, it is time for our annual Flea Market! The Market is set up by and for all the 1st and 2nd graders.  Then on Friday, during Math class, we all go to the market.

What you need to do at home:

Starting Monday, please bring in unwanted junk. This should include cheesy McDonald toys, little hot wheel cars, plastic jewelry/trinkets - you get the idea. Clean out those toy chests and closets! The more stuff we collect, the more fun the activity is. We will price all items between 1 - 25 cents.

On Friday, each child should bring in a $1.00 bill and a shopping bag. At the market, names will  be draw, and each person in turn will get the opportunity to purchase one favorite item. After the most desired items are purchased, then additional turns will be given until everything is gone.

The Flea Market gives children a chance to use their money skills in a "real life" situation.
