Novels

After spending weeks reading The Captain's Dog, it was time for a quick, fun novel.  So, last week, we read the first volume in the Encyclopedia Brown: Boy Detective series.  In each chapter the main character, Leroy, also known as Encyclopedia Brown, investigates a new case.  The children really enjoyed trying to figure out how he was able to solve the mysteries and crimes.  If your child enjoyed this book, you might can find more volumes in the SK or your local library.

"Could she be a witch?"
That is the question that our latest novel has stirred.

With Halloween right around the corner, it seemed appropriate to read TheWitches by Roald Dahl.   The grandmother in the story explains that witches look like everyone else unless you know what to look for.

Even though we have only read two chapters, one child already told me it is her favorite book ever.
