Poet Visit

Ann Arbor poet and teacher, Jeff Kass, came to visit the 1st and 2nd graders.  We heard one of his poems during our last poetry workshop.

Jeff read/performed several of his poems.

Then Jeff challenged the group to write their own poems.  The poems were to be about a sound.  First, we made a list of sounds, then Jeff had us all close our eyes and think of a sound.  Then he told us to imagine what it would be like to go inside the sound.  Consider how it would smell, feel, what color the sound would be.  When eyes were opened, the writing began.

A big thank you to Amy Kulper and Christine Hume for arranging for Jeff Kass's visit,  and to Jeff Kass for working us into his already busy day.

Here are a few poems:

Explosion
Red, yellow,
BOOM, BOOM
And

By Bora

Laugh
Colorful, joyful
Laughing, running, jumping
Laughter spreading everywhere
Nice

By Iris

Explosion
In a
Explosion
I smell
Smoke
I see
Fire, I
Hear a
Boom

By Eli

Inside of roar,
There is a lion a nice one.
I hear a growl.
It is fun.
I see blue.
I smell honey.
I taste cookies.
I feel something furry.
I like it in roar
But it is time to go.
bye!
See you next time,
Lion!
